Biography
Donna Stirrup has directed each revival of Saul since its premiere at Glyndebourne Festival in 2015, including the award-winning 2015 Tour and Adelaide Festival 2017 productions and the recent revival in Houston. She has also directed revivals of English National Opera’s Katya Kabanova at the Liceu in Barcelona, Rodelinda at ENO and at the Bolshoi (two Golden Mask Awards), Tosca at ENO, Thebans at Theater Bonn, On the Town at ENO and Châtelet, Paris, and of Glyndebourne’s Rusalka at Houston Grand Opera and The Miserly Knight/Gianni Schicchi at the Festival de Opéra, Tenerife. She directed the 2017 UK premiere of Philip Glass’ The Juniper Tree (Richmond Festival), the world premiere of Oliver Tarney’s St. Mark Passion and The Damnation of Faust (St. Endellion Festival 2018 and 2019), The Turn of the Screw (Barnes Festival 2019), ENO’s contributions to the Royal Shakespeare Company/BBC Shakespeare Live! and Proms of ENO’s Peter Grimes and Glyndebourne’s The Magic Flute. She has worked extensively at ENO as a Staff Director, and as an Assistant Director at both Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House.
