Biography
The Austrian Otto Pichler studied at the Balletschool of Landestheater Salzburg and the Performing Arts School of Theater an der Wien. Following his stage career he startet as a choreographer and director for opera, operetta, musical and drama.
His choreography credits include Der Ring des Nibelungen (Opéra Bastille), Penthesilea and Die Fledermaus (Semperoper Dresden), War and Peace, L’elisir d’amore, Jonny spielt auf and Turandot (Oper Cologne), Orfeo ed Euridice (Staatstheater Wiesbaden), Ezio (Schwetzingen Festival), Mitridate, re di Ponto (Salzburg Festival), La Cage aux Folles (Berlin), Aida (La Monnaie Brussels), La Forza del Destino (Oper Amsterdam).
The choreography work with Barrie Kosky contains Saul (Glyndebourne Festival), The Fiery Angel (Bavarian State Opera), Das Rheingold (Hanover), Carmen (Frankfurt) The Nose and Carmen (Royal Opera House Covent Garden) L’Orfeo, West Side Story (also Co-Director), Kiss Me, Kate, Ball im Savoy, La Belle Hélène, The Pearls of Cleopatra, Fiddler on the roof, Candide and The Bassarids at the Komische Oper Berlin. Les Boreades (Opéra de Dijon), Orphée aux enfers (Salzburg Festival) and recently Prince Igor (Opéra Bastille).
Otto Pichler has directed Hello Dolly, Jekyll and Hyde, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Gypsy Princess.
