The Little Prince

Moving from one planet to another seems so simple in Saint-Exupéry’s wonderful philosophical tale The Little Prince. The story has enchanted generations of readers fascinated by the adult’s gaze and amused by the child’s reactions. “I reread the text and stumbled upon Joann Sfar‘s comic strip, which is wonderfully modern and energetic,” says composer Marc-Olivier Dupin. He, in turn, embarked on the adventure, combining music and images, both of which were brought to life by the reading of actor Benoît Marchand. Colors and sounds take the audience on a new journey, a total show in which words and notes merge.

Argument

An aviator, who fell with his plane in the middle of the Sahara desert, is trying to repair it. A little boy appears and asks him to draw a sheep. The aviator learns that this “Little Prince” comes from asteroid B 612 where he left three volcanoes and a rose. Before arriving on Earth, he visited other planets and met some strange people: a king, a conceited man, a drinker, a lamplighter, a geographer… On Earth, he was able to talk with a fox who taught him that to know, one must “tame”, and that this makes things and men unique. “The essential is invisible to the eyes“, he says. To find his rose and regain his star, the Little Prince leaves by being bitten by a poisonous snake. The aviator, who has finished repairing his plane, is also leaving the desert. He still hopes for the return of the Little Prince who promised him that the stars would laugh for him and asks us to warn him if we ever meet him.
